BEST GROOVY RELEASES (so far)
1. Nadia Batson – Market
Out the gates from early and still standing up with every release that comes out. This is a tune for the ladies can’t deny that at all.
Another early’ish release that holding its corner. Definitely a feters tune, from the first line if you never experienced a carnival you can imagine just how it is just from listening this song.
Every single time I hear this song I want to slow whine in a dance, jeeeez this song is pure groovy infact the riddim (Candy Dance Riddim) is sweet! Kerwin and all did well with Energy killers.
BEST POWER RELEASES (so far)
1. Nailah Blackman – Round and Rosie
Any tune that can have the ladies in a frenzy I love one time lol. From the tik tok challenges for this song it’s evident yes. One of my favs so far.
Lyrically insane! I’ll bring it down to this “you don’t like Soca … DAIZ YOU”
Our hearts go out to Patsy and her family after the tragic passing of Ricardo Drue. This song touches the heart strings and can bring out so much emotion on the road cause we all been through a lot at times and just need a release.
BEST GYAL ANTHEMS (so far)
1. Orlando Octave – Plan B
No matter if I’m working on air or if I’m on a boat ride ladies always want to hear this song over and over. Hmm I wonder why? lol
“She Like it Rough”….. skinny has a way that he can sing about snacks and have the ladies swooning over him. This is definitely a favorite among the ladies right now.
Coming off the a big Gyal tune last year, fay has done it again and given the ladies another anthem to rally hard on the road. I know d fellas doh mind this tune too
4. Nailah Blackman – Round and Rosie
I said it already on top. This is a Gyal chune !!!
TOP RANKING FEEL GOOD SOCA RELEASES (so far)
1. Kes – Tack Back
Something about this song puts a smile on your face and you can’t help but singing while holding on to yourself and just whining. Kes always knows how to make feel good songs and he remains consistent this year.
I need to hear this song every minute when doing a task, it just calms me down and takes my mind far away from what I’m doing. Preedy’s voice glides smoothly over every single part of this tune.
One of my favourite from Ras Shorty I, so when Jamelody did this adaption of the classic I wasn’t worried at all. Properly done and puts a smile on my face every time I play it.
SOCA SONGS WITH STAYING POWER (so far)
1. Nailah Blackman – Jam of the year
Now this is just my opinion because I can see myself playing this song 4 years down the road and it should get the same feeling as it’s getting now. Production is on point and people loving it from the soca princess.
2. GBM Nutron & Farmer Nappy – In D Centre
You could ask anyone that knows me I’ve been listening to this song ever since it released. I love love love what they did with the Carl & Carol – Fix it up sample and it has everyone going down in d center. You sample a classic you should be able to have some sort of staying power 5 years later.
BEST COLLABS (so far)
1. Kerwin DuBois & Yung Bredda – Sugar Waist
Off the bat two of soca’s steamiest artists collab you know this was going to be magic. Kerwin since Monster Winer had steam in his writing and when u team up with the steam boss, it was bound to be magic.
2. Voice & V’ghn – Trinidad Sweet
Two heavy hitters from different regions voice and v’ghn bring forward a serious Carnival Anthem not just for Trinidad but can be doctored for any island in the West Indies. Tourism agencies pay attention!!
3. Jadel & Charley Black – Addictive
An unexpected collab but who ever planned this I tip my hat to you. I always like when dancehall artists touch soca songs and Charley Black is no stranger to the genre. Jadel has come a long way working hard in the industry and the past couple years she has been very consistent with her contributions. Love this song!
