Who Rules the Grill? Caribbean Teams Set for Regional Showdown at Grill Fest 2026
The aroma of sizzling meats, the crackle of open flames, and the unmistakable spirit of Caribbean culinary rivalry will take centre stage this Saturday, July 18, as the 2026 St. Kitts & Nevis Restaurant Week Grill Fest raises the stakes higher than ever before.
What has traditionally been a celebration of local grilling talent is set to evolve into a regional showdown, with elite teams from St. Kitts, Nevis, Grenada, Anguilla, and Barbados going head-to-head for bragging rights and the coveted Grill Fest title.
The event promises to be a vibrant showcase of Caribbean cuisine, culinary innovation, and the shared traditions that unite the region through food.
Across the Caribbean, conversations about food are rarely just about what’s on the plate. From Barbados’ celebrated culinary heritage and Grenada’s world-renowned spices to Anguilla’s seafood traditions and the distinctive cuisine of St. Kitts and Nevis, nearly every island proudly lays claim to being the culinary capital of the region. Those claims are often made with equal measures of confidence, patriotism, and good-natured rivalry. This Saturday, however, the debate moves from the dinner table to the grill, where skill, creativity, and execution will determine which team walks away with the ultimate prize.
Five teams representing five Caribbean destinations will take to the grills this Saturday, each bringing its own culinary traditions, techniques, and island pride in pursuit of the 2026 Grill Fest title.
Team St. Kitts will carry the hopes of the host nation as it seeks to defend home turf. Representing the Federation are Alaric Arache, Yasmin Browne, and Ashanti Dorset, who will look to combine local culinary traditions with home support as they aim to keep the Grill Fest title on St. Kitts.
Crossing the Narrows with its own ambitions is Team Nevis, represented by Juel Wilkin and Royston Queeley. Proudly flying the Queen City’s flag, the Nevisian team promises to add another exciting chapter to the friendly culinary rivalry that has long existed between the two islands.
Fresh from the Spice Isle, Team Grenada arrives with an impressive lineup of Jaylil Bernard, Andre Church, Shakera Ackie and Wyll Smith. Known globally as the “Spice of the Caribbean,” Grenada’s reputation for bold flavours and exceptional use of herbs and spices makes it one of the teams many will be watching closely. The Grenada Tourism Authority will also have a strong presence at Grill Fest, offering patrons the opportunity to win an unforgettable four-night culinary getaway to the island. The prize includes hotel accommodation, VIP airport transfers, welcome and farewell dinners, a farm-to-table culinary experience, and a culinary-inspired island tour, giving one lucky winner the chance to experience firsthand why Grenada is often regarded as one of the Caribbean’s premier culinary destinations.
Team Barbados will be represented by Marvin Applewhaite and Kobe Balgobin. With a culinary scene that has earned international recognition through its chefs, restaurants, and food festivals, the Bajan team arrives with high expectations and a reputation for culinary excellence.
Completing the regional field is Team Anguilla, bringing the island’s celebrated seafood traditions and culinary expertise to what promises to be one of the most competitive Grill Fests to date.
One of the festival’s newest attractions is the Amateur Mixology Competition, where home bartenders will compete to create the best passionfruit, carrot, or carrot-passionfruit cocktail.
While the regional competition will be the main attraction, patrons can also expect live entertainment, food vendors, cooking demonstrations, family-friendly activities, and numerous opportunities to sample dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of the participating islands.
As Restaurant Week continues to position St. Kitts and Nevis as an emerging culinary destination, the decision to expand Grill Fest into a regional competition signals an ambitious new chapter for the festival.
