Author Coryn Clarke Gets Set To Make Her Calypso Debut in Saint Kitts & Nevis
Revered Caribbean children’s author Coryn Anaya Clarke is preparing to take on a brand-new stage, this time not with a book in hand, but with a mic, a beautiful melody, and a potent, timely message. The young writer and literacy advocate will make her official debut in the 2025 FLOW Junior Calypso Monarch Competition, where she will be one of six talented primary school students vying for the coveted crown.
Coryn, celebrated across the region for her Chronicles of Coryn book series, will perform her original song “DOH SHUT WE UP,” penned by multi-discipline creative, Maria Bhola. The song is a bold and heartfelt appeal calling for adults to listen to children, respect their voices, and create safe spaces for self-expression. It speaks to themes of empowerment, advocacy, and emotional honesty-all values deeply rooted in Coryn’s work as an author and youth ambassador.
Her participation adds a powerful literary-meets-musical dimension to this year’s competition, and many are eager to see how her storytelling talent translates into calypso performance.
Also competing in this year’s primary school category are
• Mighty Adonai
• Mighty Zen
• Prince Khi
• Amaro Roland
• Zahir Fyfield-Farrell
and Adiaha Inanga, the reigning junior monarch (Primary School category) who is ready to defend her crown.
Each performer brings a unique point of view and personal style, promising a vibrant and dynamic showcase of young talent.

The Junior Calypso Monarch remains one of the most beloved aspects of Sugar Mas, offering a platform for children to explore Caribbean music, storytelling, and social commentary. This year’s show is expected to be particularly memorable as the young voices call attention to issues affecting their generation.
Coryn’s transition from author to calypsonian highlights the depth of her artistic range and her commitment to giving voice to children across St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider region. Whether through books or ballads, her message remains the same: children have something meaningful to say and adults should sit up and listen!
The public is invited to attend and support these remarkable young performers as they take the stage on Sunday, 14th December at 5PM at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort Atrium. Admission is free.
We’ve been fortunate to hear some of the songs and can say with all certainty, that is show is not one to be missed.
See you there!
