Frolic Fete Aims To Revitalise Carnival Friday Experience

In just a matter of days, Carnival enthusiasts in Trinidad and Tobago will be introduced to an event, conceptualised with the singular goal of prioritizing the pure enjoyment of patrons above all else. Dubbed ‘Frolic’, this highly anticipated, food-inclusive fete is the brainchild of renowned radio personality and event host, Ken Simmons. Set to debut this Friday at Queen’s Hall in St. Ann’s, Frolic promises to redefine the energy of Carnival Friday and reinstate the vibrant atmosphere that has been missing in recent years.

Simmons, known for his years of entertaining fans across multiple platforms, is determined to breathe new life into the Friday of Carnival, a day historically marked by the International Soca Monarch. Following the event’s departure from the Carnival calendar, Simmons saw an opportunity to fill the void left behind and reinstate Carnival Friday as a major highlight of the celebrations.

“We’re solidifying Carnival once again,” said Simmons. “It’s important for us as stakeholders to show the world that we are committed to preserving our festival. We want to make sure that Carnival Friday is once again a day people look forward to, and Frolic is the perfect event to do that.”

Ken’s vision for Frolic came to fruition after discussions with long-time event promoter Cliff Harris of Tropix Entertainment, who has played a significant role in the Carnival industry over the years. Together, they decided to create an event that would not only bring back the excitement of Carnival Friday but also build a memorable experience for revelers.

“After the departure of the Soca Monarch from the Carnival Friday lineup, we saw a gap that needed to be filled. We knew that this was our opportunity to bring something new and exciting to the table,” Simmons explained.

The inaugural Frolic event will showcase top Soca performers such as Bunji Garlin, Farmer Nappy, Lyrikal, and Mical Teja, offering an electrifying mix of live performances to get the crowd into the Carnival spirit. But Frolic promises more than just an ordinary fete. It’s being marketed as an immersive experience—blending culture, entertainment, and service to recreate the “feel-good” vibe that is synonymous with the Carnival.

“We’re bridging the gap between entertainment and culture, people and music. Frolic isn’t just an event, it’s a celebration of Carnival as it should be—fun, inclusive, and filled with joy. This is about connecting with the essence of what Carnival is all about,” Simmons shared.

Adding to the uniqueness of Frolic is the food-inclusive element, which is set to be a major draw for attendees. The event will feature a wide array of cuisines, including Jamaican, Creole, Mediterranean, Italian, Chinese, Indian, and of course, Trinidad and Tobago’s signature dishes. There will also be a live pasta station and a variety of desserts. For those looking to cool down, the option to bring a cooler will be available, alongside an open bar to keep the drinks flowing throughout the night.

Frolic aims to reignite the energy and passion of the 90s fetes while meeting the higher expectations of today’s party-goers. Simmons is intentional about recreating a vibe that’s been missing from Carnival celebrations in recent years.

“We know people expect more today than they did in the past, and we’re delivering on that. Frolic will be everything the Carnival doctor ordered—great music, great food, and an even better time,” he said.

The event’s lineup of DJs and musical accompaniment promises to keep the crowd energized and dancing all night long, with Simmons ensuring that patrons will experience an unforgettable Carnival Friday.
