Full Circle: Shenseea Talks Stage Presence, Caribbean Crowds, and the Power of Performance Ahead of SKMF Appearance

Hours before her highly anticipated performance at the 2025 St. Kitts Music Festival, dancehall sensation Shenseea spoke candidly during a press conference about her excitement to return to the stage-and what it takes to truly connect with a Caribbean audience.

Her appearance at the 2025 Saint Kitts Music Festival carries a special kind of full-circle magic. The Jamaican superstar revealed a heartfelt connection to the Federation, saying, “Saint Kitts was actually the first place I came to perform when I just started. You guys booked me for my very first performance.” That unforgettable debut, she shared, still resonates deeply with her and is a driving force behind her return. “I remember where I’m coming from. That’s why I’m here performing for you guys tonight-because I will never forget the love that you showed me when I just started out my career, being so inexperienced.”

Beyond her gratitude, Shenseea reflected on her genre-blending versatility, attributing it to her Caribbean upbringing. “Growing up in Jamaica, we listened to a wide range of music-90s R&B, pop, dancehall, even some soca at parties,” she said. “I think that environment really shaped me as an artist. Caribbean people, we don’t box ourselves in, and I think that shows in my music. I love experimenting. I want people to hear something new but still familiar.”

Addressing questions about her decision to part ways with her former label and management team, Hit and Run singer Shenseea offered a candid and empowering response. “You have to move with people who share the same vision as you,” she explained. “And if something is not working out, don’t be afraid to let it go-especially if you’ve given chances upon chances. Life waits on no man, and you have to make the time you have here on Earth count.” Her words, grounded in clarity and self-assurance, echoed the very spirit of evolution and self-determination that has defined her journey thus far.

She also gave insight into her creative process, especially when collaborating with major international artists. “I don’t overthink it-I pray, I eat, and I keep the vibe positive,” she laughed. “The creative energy flows best when we’re feeding off each other’s vibe in the studio.”

Known for her vibrant energy and magnetic presence, Shenseea acknowledged that while dancehall and soca differ in performance style and intensity, the crowd’s enthusiasm always fuels her. “I don’t think us as dancehall artists can really match up to, you know, our soca artists,” she said with a smile, “but it’s always energetic. I feel like we always get support.”

For Shenseea, the heart of any memorable performance lies in engagement. “I like to make [the audience] feel a part of the performance. I just don’t like to stand there and sing,” she explained. “Whether they come on stage or not, I truly enjoy interacting with my volunteer on stage. That’s the best part for me.”

She described the thrill of asking the crowd a question and hearing them respond in unison, calling it a testament to how tuned-in Caribbean audiences are. “Everybody’s so attentive to what I’m doing on the stage,” she said. “It’s just about commanding the stage.”

She closed with a nod to the unique flavor of regional audiences, adding, “Caribbean people, we love a show. So as long as you’re entertaining and you dominate the stage, we will always pay attention.”

With her signature confidence, humility, and undeniable star power, Shenseea’s return to the SKMF stage is a tribute to growth, gratitude, and the undeniable bond between artist and audience.

With fans eagerly awaiting her set tonight, one thing’s for sure, we just know Shenseea plans to leave it all on the stage!
