Grenada Book Festival Returns With Bigger Line-Up and National Writing Prize

The Grenada Book Festival is back this October with an expanded line-up of activities that promise to inspire, educate, and celebrate Caribbean literature. Now in its second year, the festival, organized by Grenada Book Festival Inc. in partnership with the Grenada Office of Creative Affairs, continues its mission to nurture national literacy and provide platforms for writers at all stages of their careers.

The festival officially opens on Friday, October 3rd with The Business of Publishing, a free professional development workshop designed to equip both emerging and established writers with industry insights and practical skills. On Saturday, October 4th, the much-anticipated Book Fair returns to the Grenada Trade Centre Annex, featuring more than 30 local authors and artisans. With interactive storytelling sessions in the children’s corner, the fair aims to engage readers of all ages. Entry is free.

A major highlight this year is the introduction of the Grenada Writers’ Prize, a national short story competition launched by the Grenada Office of Creative Affairs. The contest, which opens on October 1st, invites submissions from writers residing in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. There are two categories: the Grenada Writers’ Prize for adults 21 and older, and the Grenada Prize for Young Writers for those aged 15 to 20. Winners will receive cash prizes, mentorship, and the opportunity to showcase their talent on a national platform.

“I am excited about this writing competition, which is a new addition to the Grenada Book Festival,” said Amy Jones, Lead Director for the prize. “I want to encourage everyone, both young and older writers, to take advantage of this opportunity that will reap real rewards.”

Kara Benjamin, Marketing and PR Officer at the Grenada Office of Creative Affairs, emphasized the broader cultural significance: “Grenada is a nation of natural storytellers, and it’s only fitting to give those voices their time to shine. The short story competition is a place for writers to challenge their craft, share their perspectives, and contribute to our literary heritage.”

The Grenada Book Festival is supported by key partners including the Grenada Trade Centre, Huggins, Grenada Co-operative Bank, Sandals Grenada, True Blue Bay Resort, and EME Marketing & PR.

Organizers encourage the public to register early for events and participate in the competition. Festival updates are available on Facebook and Instagram (@grenadabookfestival), while full details and competition guidelines can be accessed via email at grenadabookfestival@gmail.com.
