Meet Richie, Nailah Blackman’s New Work Out Partner
If you were among the hundreds of people who attended Nailah Blackman’s Sokah Origins: Eden on Sunday, or you spent time scrolling through social media today, chances are you’d have seen at least snippets of her performance with a talented super fan.
During her set at the event which was hosted at the Southern Academy for the Performing Arts, the Princess of Soca announced that Kees was in Saint Kitts and wouldn’t be joining her to perform their hit collab, Work Out. That being the case, she invited someone from the audience to join her on stage as his stand in. Richard Lezama, was the person who opted to answer the call.
He sauntered on stage and when offered, he accepted the microphone with such confidence one festival attendee wondered out loud if “he was preparing his whole life” for that moment.
Richard delivered an epic performance that forced the frenzied crowd into a trance. He sang in key and appeared to know all the words, he put Nailah through the paces as they went low, low, low, lower, he worked the stage and his waist much to the delight of all present.
When it was all over, the question on everyone’s lips and minds was: Who is this Richard? Who is this guy that has us all thinking that Kees’ position as Nailah’s Work Out partner might be in danger?
Well earlier today YCG embarked on a mission to find him and we are happy to report that we did!
“Well everyone knows me as Richie The Unicorn. My career is actually in banking and finance and I’m also a Massage Therapist, I have my own massage studio. I also do online coaching for public speaking and career advancement skills as well as performing and building confidence and these things. Yes, I do a lot of training,” he told YCG.
Commenting on his time on stage with Soca Princess, Nailah, Richie said:
“I was just dancing with my arms up in the air dancing in the crowd… when she said she was looking for a Kees I just had my hands up just for the kicks and when she saw me she was just like you, come up because she had asked two people and they declined. I decided you know what, just for fun, just for the fun of it, sure.”
The rest as they say, is history!
Richie, joined Nailah, who he said is one of his favourite Soca artistes on stage and delivered a “deliciously wicked” performance.
He said it was a surreal moment.
“I mean, I was actually on stage with Nailah Blackman, performing with her! In the moment all I was thinking is that I was on stage with Nailah Blackman and I’m going to enjoy myself. When I came off the stage some people said they loved it. Today I noticed my social media pages were blowing up when you posted this video…People commented saying I have good knees but to be honest, I don’t even know how I was able to go so low” Richie laughed.
Richie said Nailah has long been one of his favourite artistes and it just so happens, that Work Out is one of his favourite songs. He said he is super happy that the stars aligned, allowing him to have such a once in a lifetime moment.
To Nailah, his musical hero, he said: “Thank you for the opportunity and I love you. Keep bringing the vibe and keep bringing the positivity in the music.
