Rotimi In T&T For Valentine’s Day Concert, Excited To Try Trini Food & Experience Carnival
Rotimi is in Trinidad and he’s ready to immerse himself in as much of our culture as he could squeeze into his short time here.
The Nigerian-American entertainer is the main act at Momentum: Circle Of Love, which is scheduled for this coming Wednesday night. The Valentine’s Day concert also features Gyptian and JaMelody.
Your Caribbean Guide was on hand to welcome the international recording artiste to our shores at a brief reception hosted by Tourism Trinidad at their office at the Piarco International Airport earlier today.
Of course, we took the opportunity to get answers to a few burning questions.
The Love Riddim singer indicated, that yes, he will be on the road with YUMA on Carnival Tuesday.
Though no stranger to the Caribbean, this is Rotimi’s first time in Trinidad and he told YCG he’s excited to experience the thrill of Carnival and try our food which he’s heard a lot about.
“The food, the food! I heard it’s amazing. I hear that it’s the number one Carnival and there’s nothing else that’s close. That’s what I’ve heard so I’ll see for myself…”
Commenting on his other regional jaunts, Rotimi said the Caribbean, in many ways, is similar to the African continent.
“It’s just genuine, beautiful, loving people, you know and it’s just authentic. You don’t get authenticity often anymore so when we come to our roots of where it is and again it’s very similar to Africa, you know… we’re all just beautiful people.”
Whether you’re from Trinidad and Tobago or some other part of the Caribbean, you should be fully aware of what Carnival in our corner of the world is all about.
Given the furor that was wrought when Chance The Rapper was captured participating in the revelry of Jamaica’s Carnival, we were curious to know how the Power actor would stave off or mitigate similar online attacks.
He said it’s important to have a partner who understands your life.
“You have to have a partner who really understands your life and isn’t really intimidated by what you do and you also have to make them feel extremely comfortable that there’s nothing to worry about. But also being a father and being a partner is the best thing because it’s that support that keeps you grounded. They make sure that you don’t lose your mind during this time because this industry could be very, very dark at times. Having a good partner is everything.”
Asked to elaborate on how he keeps his partner comfortable, he said by keeping it “100 and authentic.”
“Tell her everything that she wants to know and let her see it for herself, incredible communication and she has to be confident within herself and I’ll you know, not give her any type of reason to feel like something is wrong.”
Rotimi landed in Trinidad today ahead of his scheduled performance at Momentum on February 14th. The event is being hosted at the Queens Park Savannah by Blackstar Entertainment. Gates are scheduled to open at 7pm.
See you there!
