Safety First: Police Roll Out Comprehensive Traffic & Security Plan Ahead of 2025 St. Kitts Music Festival
As excitement builds for the highly anticipated opening night of the 2025 St. Kitts Music Festival, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has unveiled a detailed traffic and security plan to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all festivalgoers.
Speaking at a pre-event press conference at the St Kitts Marriot earlier today, ACP Rogers emphasised the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety while preserving smooth traffic flow throughout Basseterre and its environs. “Our main objectives are to ensure safe and efficient movement for both vehicles and pedestrians, provide accessible parking, and guarantee emergency vehicle access at all times,” he stated.
One-Way Traffic Flow Around Warner Park
Festival patrons should note that traffic around Warner Park will flow in a designated one-way loop. Key adjustments include:
- Park Range will be one-way heading from north to south.
- Victoria Road will flow east to west toward the Moravian Church.
- No parking will be permitted around Warner Park during the festival period. Restrictions began at midnight on the eve of Night One.
Only vehicles with VIP accreditation and car passes will be allowed access to limited parking areas within the immediate venue.
Designated Parking and Shuttles
To minimise congestion, several parking areas have been designated, including:
- Beach Allen Football Field (between Beach Allen and Washington Archibald High School)
- Streets in downtown Basseterre, including limited parking along Church Street and the eastern side of Fort Street (from Republic Bank to Digicel)
Shuttle services will operate from Port Zante and other key locations to transport patrons to and from the venue. “Security and adequate lighting will be in place across all parking lots,” the Assistant Commissioner assured.
Strict Enforcement & Visible Police Presence
Officers will be out in full force, with support from private security, traffic wardens, and the Defence Force monitoring parking zones. A Mobile Command Unit will also be stationed at the football field area inside Warner Park to handle lost items, incidents, or complaints.
“We’re working closely with emergency services and disaster response units. Our patrols will be active throughout the night to maintain order and ensure your safety while you enjoy the show,” he said.
Reminder to Patrons: Obey the Law
Motorists are urged to follow all traffic regulations. Illegal parking-particularly near intersections or obstructing traffic—will be met with tickets or towing. “It’s only three days,” the Assistant Commissioner remarked. “Let’s cooperate to keep this beautiful festival safe and enjoyable for everyone.”
With performances set to kick off in grand style, authorities are encouraging patrons to arrive early, follow directions, and remain vigilant. “We want your experience to be phenomenal, whether you’re local or visiting. Let’s work together to make this year’s festival unforgettable-for all the right reasons.”
Addressing the matter of marijuana use at the festival grounds, the ACP Rogers offered a clear yet light-hearted reminder of the rules. “The only thing that we can take in there illegally is our five pre-rolled ganja, herb, cannabis spliff,” he quipped. “Don’t take a big bag of weed in there and say you gonna go share it with the whole festival.” Each person is permitted to carry up to five pre-rolls along with a lighter-“because of course, you can’t light it with your finger,” he added with a smile. He cautioned against bringing ziploc bags, wrappers, or matches, urging patrons to comply with the guidelines. Importantly, he also encouraged smokers to make use of the designated 420 zone, out of respect for fellow festivalgoers who may choose not to partake.
