Delivering remarks at the launch, Minister of Tourism Marsha Henderson highlighted the festival’s far-reaching impact, describing it as much more than an entertainment event, but a cornerstone of the nation’s tourism and economic development strategy.
“This evening is about celebration, connection and appreciation,” she said, extending gratitude to sponsors, artistes, promoters, vendors, creatives, tourism partners, security services, volunteers, and the festival committee and secretariat. “The strength of this festival lies in your commitment and your collaboration, and we are truly grateful.”
Minister Henderson emphasised that the Saint Kitts Music Festival stands as one of the federation’s flagship tourism products, driving visitor arrivals, supporting local businesses, and showcasing the creativity, talent, and vibrant spirit of Saint Kitts on the global stage. She noted that the festival also plays a critical role in strengthening airlift, encouraging longer visitor stays, and positioning the island as a dynamic, year-round destination.
“The economic activity stirred by this festival is one that trickles into the pockets of the ordinary man, helping therefore to transform lives,” she added.
The minister also issued a heartfelt invitation to the diaspora, encouraging them to return home and reconnect with the island that shaped them. Describing the festival as a “homecoming,” she expressed anticipation in once again welcoming nationals from around the world to celebrate culture, music, and community.
Chairman of the Saint Kitts Music Festival Committee, Alistair Williams, echoed the minister’s sentiment, reflecting on the significance of the upcoming staging and describing the 28th edition as a major milestone in the festival’s journey.
Welcoming stakeholders and supporters to the launch, he expressed gratitude for their continued partnership and commitment, noting that the longevity of the festival speaks to the vision of its founders, the resilience of the event over time, and the unwavering support of sponsors, partners, and the wider community.
Recounting the festival’s origins in 1996, he shared that what began as a cultural celebration through music — originally known as the Shark Shack Music Festival — was created with a clear purpose: to generate opportunity and revenue for local communities. Over the years, he said, the festival has evolved into one of the premier events in the region, growing in relevance through intentional planning and a dedication to showcasing notable regional and international acts.
He emphasized that the 28th staging represents both legacy and evolution, while also serving as a reminder of the shared responsibility to continually raise standards and deliver a safe, high-quality, and memorable experience for audiences, visitors, and the community alike.
Describing the festival as a true collaboration of culture and talent, Williams noted that its success belongs to everyone and stands as a testament to the power of partnership and collective pride. He extended congratulations and thanks to all who have supported the event over the years, encouraging attendees to connect, celebrate, and look ahead with excitement to the upcoming festival.
