Sugar Mas 54: Ultra Wins Historic 8th Consecutive Band of the Year Title

The streets of Basseterre came alive in a breathtaking display of colour, creativity, and cultural pride as the Sugar Mas 54 Grand Parade unfolded, culminating in a historic victory for Ultra Carnival, which was crowned Band of the Year for the eighth consecutive year.

The results simply echoed what revelers and spectators felt in real time on the road – a palpable surge of energy, creativity, and confidence. Sugar Mas is not just evolving; it is redefining itself, pushing the boundaries of carnival presentation in St. Kitts and Nevis and firmly asserting its place among the Caribbean’s most vibrantly compelling and dynamic cultural showcases.

Results at a Glance

Ultra Carnival dominated the 2025 Grand Parade results, securing several of the top honours:

Band of the Year: Ultra Carnival (886 points)

Most Powerful Troupe: Ultra Carnival (146 points)

Queen of the Bands: Ultra Carnival (824 points)

Section of the Year: Ultra Carnival – Rodeo Royale (115 points)

Strong performances were also recorded by LUXE – Garden of Nations, which finished 1st Runner-Up with 815 points, and Novali – Players Club, which placed 2nd Runner-Up with 657 points and captured the King of the Bands title with 832 points.

Each band brought a distinct narrative to the streets.

Ultra’s presentation fused western motifs with regal flair, delivering a commanding and polished portrayal. The band’s consistency, scale, and road presence once again set the standard for carnival excellence.

LUXE’s theme – Garden Of Nations – celebrated global beauty, unity, and botanical elegance. With lush colours, intricate detailing, and a strong visual identity, the band impressed with its artistry and storytelling, earning praise for both concept and execution.

Leaning into high-energy glamour and casino-inspired symbolism, Novali’s Players Club brought swagger, confidence, and bold character to the road. The band’s King of the Bands performance stood out as one of the parade’s highlights.

Minister of Culture, Samal Duggins, lauded the performances and paid tribute to the creative forces behind Sugar Mas 54, describing Ultra Carnival’s win as “an extraordinary achievement.”

“A powerful showing on the road and a dominant statement at the finish,” Minister Duggins said. “Congratulations to Ultra Carnival, crowned Band of the Year for the eighth consecutive time, an achievement that speaks to consistency, creativity, organisation, and excellence at the highest level of mas.”

He also commended the broader carnival community, extending congratulations to LUXE – Garden of Nations and Novali – Players Club for their strong showings, as well as all section winners and individual award recipients.

“The artistry, craftsmanship, and storytelling on display brought Sugar Mas 54 to life,” he noted. “These results reflect the strength of our carnival ecosystem – designers, band leaders, masqueraders, creatives, and support teams – all working together to deliver a world-class product.”

As Sugar Mas 54 draws to a close, the Grand Parade results underscore the continued growth and refinement of St. Kitts and Nevis’ national carnival. From innovative themes and masterful costume design to disciplined organisation and electrifying road performances, the standard continues to rise.
