Trinidad Producer Kerwin “Mad Hed City” Prescott Helps Power Landmark Jamaican Sound Clash Album

Trinidad and Tobago producer Kerwin Prescott, better known as Mad Hed City of Mad Pak Music, has contributed two tracks to Sound Clash Culture, billed as Jamaica’s first-ever Sound Clash album, set for release on September 8, 2025 under the S.H.E.M Music Productions imprint.

Prescott produced “Simply Magic” and “Dubplate To A Sound Bwoy (Remix) 2025” for the 13-track project led by Jamaican singer Singing Melody. In addition to production, Prescott was involved in mixing, co-directing the album, and filming/co-directing music videos tied to the release.

The album brings together a cross-border roster that includes Singing Melody, Germany’s Hi-One, Raye Bann, Pure Music Productions with Delly Ranx, and Too Faymous. Featured titles include “Kill Sound Straight,” “Tun Up Di Sound” (featuring Kiprich), and “Dub Nuh Miss (Remix)” with Cutty Ranks, all aimed at reviving the competitive dubplate-driven culture that helped shape dancehall.

Prescott and Singing Melody first connected backstage at an event in Tobago, where the Trinidadian producer shared ideas that aligned with the veteran artist’s vision.
“When Kerwin shared his ideas with me, I was blown away,” Singing Melody said. “They aligned perfectly with the concept I had for Sound Clash Culture. Working with him has been a joy, it shows the unity that exists between Jamaicans and Trinis.”

For Prescott, traveling to Jamaica to collaborate marked both a professional milestone and a personal dream. “Being in Jamaica with this legend was really a high point for me,” he said. “Our energies meshed perfectly. As a Trinidadian influenced by this music since childhood, it felt incredible to contribute to such a historic album.”

Singing Melody, celebrated for hits like “Want You Back” and recently honored with a Lifetime Music Award for contributions to Jamaican music and sound system culture, says the project’s mission is to reignite and preserve the clash tradition for a new generation.

Prescott’s career spans soca, rapso, hip hop, and dancehall. He broke out in 2000 with “Pace” (produced by the late Shel Shok), later working with UK outfit Jus Now and artists including The Prototypes (on their award-winning “Pop It Off”), Fuse ODG, Stylo G, producer Patrick “Roach” Samuels, and soca star Bunji Garlin.

Sound Clash Culture will be available from September 8, 2025.
