Young Musicians Set to Dazzle at ‘Recital Day’
A group of budding musicians is set to take the spotlight this month as the David Freeman Center of Excellence in Market Shop, Gingerland, hosts a lively and inspiring music recital titled “Recital Day!” on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 6:00 pm.
The event, centered around the theme “The Importance of Music,” will feature performances from four piano students, five vocalists, and two drummers — all trained under the expert guidance of music educator Venelle Powell and the Buka Beats Academy.
Powell, who has played a key role in nurturing the musical abilities of the students, emphasized that the recital is more than just an evening of entertainment.

“This is about growth and expression. It’s a chance for these young people to publicly show how music has shaped their confidence and creativity,” she explained. “We’re finally starting to recognize just how deeply music is woven into every aspect of life — from celebrations to ceremonies, from joy to reflection.”
She also highlighted the human connection behind music, encouraging the public to support those who create the melodies that move us.
“Think about it — someone played the drum that made you dance during Culturama, someone played that piano that brought tears at a wedding. These moments are created by people who have been trained, mentored, and supported,” Powell said.
In addition to promoting personal development, the event contributes to the cultural landscape of Nevis by offering young artists a platform to share their skills and passion with the community.
Tickets for Recital Day! are now available at $20 in advance, $25 at the gate, and $10 for children. Children aged five and under can attend for free.
The recital is made possible through the support of JSE Bookkeeping and Support Corp, Buka Beats Academy, and Polish Me Pretty (Massage & Spa).
